HRC AVIATION GASOLINE PROVIDES A SOLUTION TO ELIMINATE TOXIC LEAD ADDITIVES IN AVIATION GASOLINE
Incredibly, aviation gasoline in 2022 still contains TEL, an extremely toxic lead containing additive designed to boost gasoline octane. The FAA is running a competition to determine the best way to replace TEL in aviation gasoline. US EPA is strongly hinting that a total ban of lead in aviation gasoline is coming soon.
US Patent 10,883,061 B2 was issued on January 5, 2021 to Calumet Specialty Products Partners. John Burger is named as an inventor on the patent. It describes an aviation fuel formulation using high octane paraffins, 2 % aromatic amines and 3.5 % isobutanol (a co-solvent). This formulation meets all specifications for aviation gasoline, although the aromatic amines and isobutanol are not yet approved components for aviation gasoline.
John is hoping to be able to enter this formulation in the FAA’s EAGLE contest soon. If this happens, HRC Fuels expects the formulation will win.
