ABOUT HRC FUELS
HRC Fuels is a natural progression of John Burger’s 40 + year career. John was a member of the ARCO team that invented reformulated gasoline in the 1980’s. The team was exposed to a lot of data about how gasoline blends, which components contribute the most to various tailpipe emissions and the impact of oxygenates on tailpipe emissions. When John retired from ARCO, he founded an engineering consulting firm, Finding Second the Right Answer, LLC. As the name suggests, refineries often find it important to find another way to use existing equipment to improve profitability. John specializes in doing this. He and a team at Calumet Industries created a replacement Aviation Gasoline formulation, US Patent 10,883,061 B2, dated January 5,2021.
After completing his work at Calumet, John decided to combine his ARCO experience with what he had learned about aromatic amines – to attempt to get the Second Right Answer on reformulated gasoline. His work is summarized on this website, and covered by US Patent 11,434,441 B2, dated September 6,2022.
HRC Fuels is an extension of Finding Second the Right Answer, LLC. We are a licensing technology company intent on changing how automotive and aviation gasolines are made. It is extremely unusual for solutions to significant environmental crises to improve refining economics. Yet, that is true for HRC Technology. This is the transformation we need NOW.
HRC Gasoline is less expensive to make than current gasolines.
Refiners practicing HRC technology can blend inexpensive renewable naphtha into their HRC gasoline, further reducing costs.
WHY HRC?
Since reformers are either cut back or shutdown, refineries using HRC technology have lower Scope 2 CO2 emissions.
Automotive gasolines made with HRC technology have lower NOx, particulate, toxics and Scope 3 CO2 tailpipe emissions than current gasolines.
Aviation Gasoline made with HRC technology contains no TEL, and meets all current avgas specifications. It is a drop-in replacement for current TEL-containing avgas.
