HRC TECHNOLOGY WILL REDUCE A REFINERY'S CO2 SCOPE TWO EMISSIONS
Implementation of HRC Technology will usually result in reduced catalytic reformer feed rates and eventual reformer shutdown. The exception is for refineries that run reformers purely for production of benzene, toluene and/or xylene, and do not blend these aromatics into gasoline.
Catalytic reformers consume a lot of energy to create aromatics (the reaction is highly endothermic) – all of that energy is provided by fossils fuel with resulting CO2 Scope Two emissions. The percent reduction in CO2 Scope Two emissions is dependent on the ratio of reforming rates to crude run rates. Each refinery will be different, and each refinery will have to determine the reduction based on how they will modify the refinery to incorporate HRC Technology.
